The beginning

We just created this blog to keep those interested in Luke and Gene's trip to Africa. We are very excited to be a part of such a great activity and great team (Global Family Rescue - GFR) to help out the village of Namyoya in Uganda Africa. What an awesome opportunity individually for Luke and I as well as an amazing father/son trip!!

We have received almost all of our shots and have now just began getting things together for the trip. We plan to bring a lot with us (clothes, supplies, etc.) and plan come back with very little (most likely the clothes on our backs and enough to get home).

My hope is to actually keep this blog site updated during our trip. Overnight, we will be staying in the capital of Uganda - Kampala (for the most part) which, believe it or not, has Internet. We will be making day trips during the days to the village to help and work. So I believe we will be able to share thoughts, pictures, etc. during our trip. If for some reason that does not work out, I will definitely update as soon as we are back.

We have a trip agenda that includes helping to build out a church in one of the villages helping build homes and visiting a number of sponsored families. We will be visiting our sponsored family as well, that should be awesome. As with any good and well defined plan, we need to 'plan to change' as there will definitely be a 'change in plan'. What we do know...we are going to be working hard and helping people.

One of the things I am really looking forward to is just being available 24x7 to help people who really need help. During this trip, I am really looking forward to the opportunity to just randomly help folks that will literally change and/or save their lives. What I am realizing is that there are many cases where you will find yourself face to face interacting with someone that is literally dying with a very treatable disease or infection. They just do not have the money to get treated. Or there will be opportunities to provide clothing, supplies, and/or food to families that right now are living on less than $3/month. I know the need will be greater than what we can provide during our time there, though I also know that the work we will be doing in Uganda will provide Hope and care for these people and will ultimately saves lives.

Luke and I will be there for 2 weeks. The total GFR summer project is a 6 week project. The overall project for this village is a three year project to get them back on their feet through sponsorship of families, finishing building the local church, building a school, building a health clinic, fixing the two water wells on each side of the village and building homes for families in the village. What an awesome experience this should be.

To all of you, we so appreciate all the kind words, thoughts, prayers and financial support for the efforts to help out this village in Uganda. Luke and I are very thankful and excited to be a part of it - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
